Built Expressions in conversation with Mr. Pawan Poddar, Director - Piccolo Mosaic Limited spoke about the latest trends and marketing strategies used in the flooring industry. 

BE: What are the recent market trends in the flooring industry prevailing in the present scenario? How has been the growth of the industry in the last few years?

PP: In flooring, competition is happening across the categories like natural product (Marble, Granite, and Wood) & man made product (Tiles, Laminates, mosaics). In current market scenario, porcelain tiles are taking care of short comings of natural product with respect to water absorption & aesthetics. Earlier, people had limited options, but now they are looking for more options even though tiles have got the major share.

BE: How is the company looking at creating brand visibility in the current market considering the intense competition from various flooring companies in India?

PP: We are focusing on brand visibility through ATL & BTL activities and product experience through displays at retail level.

BE: What are the latest advanced technologies in the tile industry? How far is it advanced in India?

PP: Like any other industry, tile industry is also not left out in technological innovations; the recent development in printing on tiles has revolutionized the aesthetics of tile. Now tiles are printed by non contact digital printers to give more depth in printing. Digital is new technology as far as Indian market is concerned.

BE: What are your views on Green Flooring products? What is the status of awareness about this particular product?

PP: Awareness for green product are increasing, people tend to use product which are eco friendly. Our brand Piccolo is also green product comply with green building standard.

BE: Tell us about the latest launch in the products and your plans for the year 2013.

PP: Piccolo introduces "Designer Highlighter Concepts". This concept will give all together new dimension to ambiance, whether it is shower area in bathroom, bathroom floors, kitchen backsplash, lift area, living area, balcony, terrace or any other area which needs to be highlighted.  These highlighter concepts can be mix & merge with any ceramic product due to thickness of 8mm and sheet size of 300mm x 300mm, Piccolo porcelain mosaics are compatible with almost all other ceramic products. Although highlighter are common on walls, but as far as flooring is concerned this is one of its kind in India. On floor customization and creativity is very limited, but with piccolo highlighter concepts you can break the monotony of the floor & highlight the particular area.

BE: What is your vision for the company in the coming few years? What kind of strategies you have chalked out to achieve your goals? How do you achieve it?

PP: We have been in the mosaic industry for quite some time, after having presence in glass mosaic we have introduced Piccolo Porcelain mosaic last year. Our thrust is on new product research & development. We always make an effort to have products which gives endless possibility in terms of designing & creativity with wide range of colours & finishes.  We enjoy creating mosaic magic in every possible area.
