Innovations in Precast Concrete Technology

Currently, precast methodologies are the premier way to build infrastructure throughout the world. Significant innovation in precast happened from the year 2007 to 2011 in china. Precast in India has been increasingly used over the last few years. Looking ahead there is nothing but growth, especially in a country that has only recently adopted precast. There will definitely be an improvement in India's infrastructure going into the future were adoption of precast technologies is a must. In housing alone there is still a need for 26 million homes in India, so one can imagine the potential. China has set quite a few trends in precast for developing nations, as they developed and modernized their nation's infrastructure using precast methodologies in a relatively short span of time.

A famous example of it being the construction of a 57 Floor skyscraperin Hunan Province in 19 days, assembling 3 floors a day, now the same construction company is planning to erect a 200 floor skyscraper in 90 days. All of this is possible only because of Precast Technology. The other main issue in todays construction every one of us are facing is availability of skilled labor in spite of India’s population.

Our company is quite young, having seen its inception in 2011. It was founded by and is being managed by civil engineers and industrial designers. Since precast is quite new to India, we make sure to provide all our knowledge and expertise based on the customers requirement. As a result of this, there are many cases where we were able to cut cost and speed up construction by switching to more efficient designing and bringing in value addition. Our approach is to provide start to finish solutions so that we may maximize value engineering we can bring in.

Precast concrete Brings in Quality

Casting of precast elements is done in a controlled environment allowing us to adhere to the highest standards of quality control. Manufacturing these elements in a factory allows precise control over factors such as the molds, aggregates, vibration and compaction of concrete, curing; allowing for consistency and high levels of quality. This high quality allows precast structures to have longer and more sustainable life-spans; unlike (cast-in-situ) which is affected by factors that are difficult to control like improper levels of moisture, inconsistent material quality and faulty workmanship in turn causing their life spans to be unpredictable, this also eliminates problems of cracks, leakages and thereby reducing the maintenance cost.

Time Advantage

Factory environment allows precast elements to be produced quickly and consistently, which in turn allows for proper planning at the site to hasten up construction. Precast products are transported to the site in a easy to assemble form, this allows for the work at the site to be completed significantly faster as the products just need to be placed where they belong. This leads to huge benefits, work is done faster, less wastages, less manpower is required when compared to cast in site method, and ultimately saves time. Precast projects of very large scale can be completed in weeks rather than months or years if planned well. One can clearly infer from the above points how precast saves money.

Saving on Cost

Mr. Srineevasa Reddy, CEO, Arto Precast Concrete

Its efficient manufacturing process which means there are less material wastages, the high quality means that it is guaranteed to last longer which saves money in the long run, it saves a lot of time during construction which also leads to savings in money. Certain precast elements can be reused, so they wouldn’t go to waste if there were changes to the infrastructure (eg. road dividers); and other precast products are relatively easy to recycle into aggregates that can be used elsewhere. All this adds up to huge monetary benefits.

Precision Brings Safety

When a precast product is designed and engineered, all aspects are looked into including safety. Since it is manufactured with high quality, it allows for the structures to be consistent and be able to perform to its limits that it is designed for. This consistency means that it is more dependable and safer. It is also easier to add safety measures on to precast structures than it would be through traditional means.

Environment-Friendly

Good Control during manufacturing allows for less wastage of raw material, manpower, and other aspects that go into manufacture which in turn reduces the overall carbon footprint of doing the same work through traditional (cast-in-situ) methods.

Durability of Precast

Precast structures can ensure a very long lifespan; depending on design can extend to over a 100 years. This means that there no need for regular maintenance of structures which in turn adds to sustainability in the long run.

Recyclable

Precast elements can be crushed and reused as aggregates for road bases or construction fill and the same could be selectively used for constructing another Precast Structure. The recovery in case of precast structures is much higher, which will provide environmental and economic savings.

Products of Arto Precast

The company manufactures precast products including U-drains, box culverts, manholes, compound walls, cover slabs, road dividers, air valve chambers, kerb stones, etc. and provide relevant solutions as per the needs of the customer.
